  Mah-jong-shop.com is located in Germany near Hannover and was established in 2003. Company owner Stephan Hilchenbach is an enthusiastic Mahjong player himself. When he started to learn this game back in 2002 it was extremely difficult to buy Mahjong sets in Germany. Just a few people knew the game in its classical form as a board game. Hilchenbach wanted to change this and to spread the joy and excitement he experienced with the beautiful game himself. It was a chicken-and-egg situation, and he decided to start by providing an easily accessible way to buy Mahjong sets first of all.

  It took him almost a year to find reliable suppliers in China and to establish business contact with selected Chinese manufacturers. Import procedures and customs regulations had to be clarified as well. Eventually his first small delivery of Mahjong sets arrived in Germany. This was in late 2003.

  Although initially only available in German language only, as the sales gradually increased, Hilchenbach decided to expand and provide an English language version of his online shop.

  Well-known by now as a reliable and competent source of Mahjong sets and accessories, Hilchenbach's company sponsored the 2nd Open European Mahjong Championship (OEMC) 2007 in Denmark as well as the 2nd German Mahjong Open 2007 in Hannover, both tournaments which Mahjong Time were the official online partner of.
